Angels’ Place Race Commemorates 10th Anniversary

May 2, 2017, CLARKSTON, MICH. – Angels’ Place Race, a 5k/10k run in Clarkston, Mich., celebrates its 10th anniversary this year with its annual event on Saturday, May 13.
The race, which begins and ends at St. Daniel’s Church, includes a 10k run, 5k run/walk, and 1-mile family fun run. In addition to medals for top finishers in each category, lots of door prizes are up for grabs from great sponsors throughout the community. New this year, the top male and female finishers in this year’s 10k race will each receive a $100 gift card, courtesy of Runnin’ Gear in Waterford.
“We are excited to be holding the 10th annual Angels’ Place Race in Clarkston again this year,” said Paul Maxwell, race director. “With the community’s support, we are able to offer a unique setting for a fun and challenging race that attracts runners and walkers from all over Oakland County and beyond, all to support a worthwhile organization.”
The first Angels’ Place Race included a 5k race and 1-mile walk and attracted 130 participants. Since then, the race has grown to accommodate over 400 runners and walkers across four events – a 10k run, a 5k run, a 5k walk, and a 1-mile family fun walk. In addition, the race has been certified by the Michigan Fitness Foundation for the last two years.
Over the last decade, Angels’ Place Race has raised approximately $200,000 to support Angel’s Place, a Southfield, Mich.-based non-profit organization that provides homes and services for adults with developmental disabilities. Twenty residential homes currently located in Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb counties offer residents a family environment focused on dignity, acceptance, and personal well-being and growth.
Online registration for the 10th Annual Angels’ Place Race is available until May 9. Walk-up registration will be available at St. Daniel’s Church in Clarkston Friday, May 12 from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday, May 13 before the race, starting at 7:30 a.m. The 10k race begins promptly at 9:15, the 5k race at 9:30, and the 1-mile family fun walk at 10 a.m.

May 10, 2016: Angels’ Place Race Collaborates with Drew’s Home of Clarkston

Angels’ Place Race, now in its 9th year, is collaborating with the 501(c)(3) charity Drew’s Home of Clarkston to establish a community-based home for men with disabilities in Clarkston, Mich.

For nearly a decade, Angels’ Place Race has raised more than $160,000 to support Angels’ Place, a Southfield, Mich.-based non-profit organization that provides homes and services for adults with developmental disabilities. Twenty residential homes currently located in Oakland and Macomb counties offer residents a family environment focused on dignity, acceptance, and personal well-being and growth.

With this new collaboration, the 9th Annual Angels’ Place Race will donate a portion of its proceeds directly to Drew’s Home of Clarkston, which has plans to build or refurbish a home in Clarkston within two years. The home, which will be managed by Angels’ Place, will provide a safe, compassionate environment for men with disabilities in the community. (A future project would include a similar home for women).

“There is such a great need within the Clarkston area to support those less fortunate,” said Dick Moscovic, director of Drew’s Home of Clarkston. “A project of this scope requires the time, talent, and resources of many in the community, and we are grateful to Angels’ Place Race for their support.”

The 9th Annual Angels’ Place Race takes place Saturday, May 14 in Clarkston, Mich. The race, which begins and ends at St. Daniel’s Church, includes a 10k run, 5k run/walk, and 1-mile family fun run. In addition to medals for top finishers in each category, many door prizes are up for grabs from great sponsors throughout the community.
